Things to Do: Burnaby Lake Park

One summer day I had nothing to do so I went chatting on Facebook to see if anyone else was in the same boat and wanted to go to the local parks.  Amazingly enough when you don't plan, you can find people who want to do exactly the same thing as you.  It was a sunny afternoon in Burnaby and we decided to go explore Burnaby Lake Park.  The reliable GPS (TomTom VIA 1505TM 5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Traffic & Maps) brought us the the Nature House and Piper Spit.  This is the most picturesque area of the lake because you can walk out on a walkway on the spit and see the view.  You can see the Canadian geese and duck families swim around.  You can even see people feeding them grain - you can only feed seeds at this park.  At the end of the walkway the fishermen are putting out their lines waiting for a bit.  Of course I saw one whose line was tugging but not from the fish.  They were the ducks after who were biting.
You can also go up to the top of a tower which is partly wheelchair accessible and get a good view of the lake.
The trails were well groomed and very quiet.  I wasn't dressed for walking around the entire lake which would have taken 2-3 hours and was not prepared.  Being prepared would be wearing comfortable clothing and shoes, mosqito repellent, and bringing water, sunscreen and hat.
