One impromptu evening my co-workers and I were running late for a Philosopher's Cafe. When we walked by, the room was small and crowded and it seemed awkward to interrupt. Since we were on Main Street in Vancouver, BC, we decided to go to the Vancouver Restaurant Burgoo Bistro instead.
Surprisingly even on a weekday evening, there was a waiting list. We decided to wait because their food is just that good. Good things are worth waiting for, right? Burgoo is so well known that they don't take reservations at all. It is always first come, first served. They seem to have more tables for couples or pairs, so I would not recommend bringing a large group here unless you can get one of their limited reservations for groups. Our wait time was one hour for a table, but it was well worth it.
I ordered their homemade Strawberry Lemonade to drink. Fresh crushed strawberries sat at the bottom of the glass to give the lemonade a nice twist. It wasn't too sweet, or too sour, it was just right.
I really enjoy tapas style so instead of ordering individual plates, we ordered a nice variety to share.
Burgoo has Cheese Fondues and we shared the Fondumental Cheese Fondue with Gruyere and Emmenthal cheese and white wine. They offer to top up your crusty bread if you are hungry eaters and finish it before you finish the cheese.
An appetizer dish that we also tried were the Spanish Meatballs. It is a starter and had enough meatballs for the four of us. There might have been a couple of extras but who's counting?
Next up was another dish to awe at which were the Steamed Mussels. They came in a lovely bacon cream sauce that was excellent by itself as a soup.
Of course you can't forget about dessert. We tried the Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding that was a warm pudding topped with vanilla ice cream.
Burgoo has different locations in Vancouver Kitilano, Vancouver Main Street and North Vancouver. I went to the one at 3096 Main Street.
